Break Instructions down to terms of the kids!

Jenn Starkey, author of League of Your Own, shared with me the Albert Einstein quote: ‘If you can’t explain it to a 6 year-old, you don’t understand it yourself.'

'Keep everything simple so that your kids build confidence, confident kids play fast, fast kids win games’ – Joe Daniel, founder of joedanielfootball.com

'Great way to make sure you are teaching at their level: Try to teach one of your assistant coaches to do a skill with their off hand (i.e. If they are right-handed try to teach them to throw left-handed.)  This forces you to break down the skill into it’s most elemental pieces.  Then add in variables a little bit at a time.' Valeri Garcia, PCA Double-Goal Coach Award winner

1. Register to be a Coach

Register to Coach

Coaching applications are asked to be completed for each sport season, Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter. You are able to indicate that you are interested in coaching multiple sports on a single application therefore at the most you would be completing an application twice per year,

Compliance Timelines:

Spring/Summer Sports - please make every effort to have your application completed before the start of the sport season.
Fall/Winter Sports - please make every effort to have your application completed before the start of the sport season.

Please use the Coaching Application Lookup tool to check or verify that your coaching application is on file for the current season.

If your name does not appear when you search, you did not complete the application for the current season. To complete the application use the registration link to the left.

2. Coach Onboarding - Trusted Coaches

Once you have registered to coach, and your sport leadership has provided a list of potential coaches to P.L.A.Y., you will receive an e-mail directing you to take required actions via our new partner for coach onboarding, Trusted Coaches (www.trustedcoaches.org).  If you are registered to coach for the upcoming season, please keep an eye on your inbox for an e-mail from adminassistant@playinfo.org - it may end up in your spam/junk folder.

There are four online components to the onboarding process, all of which can be completed  via the Trusted Coaches dashboard:

1- Background Check - P.L.A.Y. requires a new background check be conducted every two (2) years. That said, with our transition to Trusted Coaches, you may be asked to complete a new background check even if you've completed one within that 2-year window.

2 - Child Safety Training - This training is required on an annual basis as part of the federal SafeSport Authorization Act of 2017.

3 - Concussion Training - This training is required once every two (2) years.

4 - First-Aid Training - This training is new for our coaches and is required once every three (3) years.

No action is required until you receive an e-mail instructing you to create an online Trusted Coaches profile or asking you to login to an existing account if you've previously created one.  All online training modules will be listed in one place to make it easier for you to complete the requirements efficiently.

These coach onboarding requirements are to create a safe and positive environment as possible for our young athletes. Failure to complete this onboarding process may result in the immediate suspension of coaching privileges until all requirements are completed.  Thank you for you interest in coaching!!!

3. PCA Training

Each sport will offer opportunities to complete PCA training each season. This training is required once per year. If you are unable to attend an in-person session, or one is not offered for your sport, please contact your sport leader about alternative options.

For fall of 2024, coaches must have participated in PCA training in winter 2023 or Spring 2024, in order to be considered compliant.
