Welcome to P.L.A.Y. Track & Field

Registration for the 2024 season will open in early January.

Our program is designed to introduce young athletes to the basics of Track & Field in a fun and exciting environment.  Each participant will get exposure to a variety of different events (both running and field events) that will help build their confidence, skills, work ethic, and sportsmanship.  They will learn a routine of proper warm-up, drills, and stretching.  They will also have the opportunity to compete in weekly meets during the season.

PROGRAM GOALS:

  • Learn Track & Field fundamentals and event techniques
  • Build on previous skills through a variety of exercises, drills, and games
  • Build confidence through hard work and perseverance
  • Know what it takes to work as a team
  • Develop good sportsmanship and make new friends
  • HAVE FUN!!!

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE:  The P.L.A.Y. Track & Field Program is open to CURRENT students K-5 from all districts, not just Prior Lake – Savage. Kindergartners must be in K this school year (2022-2023) in order to participate.

WHERE: Practices and meets are held at Dan Patch Stadium at Prior Lake High School.  However, location may change to Twin Oaks Middle School depending on field availability.  In addition, we may have one "away" meet during the season with a neighboring program. (example: Eden Prairie or Eagan).

WHEN:  Practices are held one evening per week beginning the end of April.  Practices are generally from 6-7pm, although those times depend on when the high school programs need the field.

All meets are on Saturday mornings beginning at 8:30am going to around 11:00am. However our final meet may go til 11:30am as we plan for a small award ceremony after the meet.

The cost of the program is only $70 per child.

Critically important is the need for VOLUNTEERS.  In order to ensure a successful season, we need your support!  We ALWAYS appreciate those who step up and volunteer. This year, we have the need for the following opportunities:

  • Track & Field Coordinator - assist with practice and meet set-up, answer parent questions, support coaches and VPs to ensure practices and meets are running smoothly, etc.
  • Team Coaches - create a fun atmosphere to teach track & field fundamentals, help build athlete confidence, support team in making new friends and developing good sportsmanship.

No experience is necessary. We just need dedicated, supportive, and engaged volunteers to get the program off and “running”. Many of our previous volunteers have never coached before but have still been successful through the support of the High School Track & Field Team, P.L.A.Y. Track & Field Board members, and YouTube videos.

A coach's meeting will be planned for the middle of April to provide more information and prepare you for the season!

Please indicate your willingness to volunteer during registration or contact the Track & Field Co-VPs directly.

We look forward to another exciting Track & Field Season!  If you have any questions, please contact us at vptrack@playinfo.org

GO LAKERS!!!
