Track and Field

Welcome to 2021 P.L.A.Y. Track & Field

Registration for the 2021 is now open!

To register, please click the link at the top of this page!  Unfortunately, because of the number of participants, we are unable to fulfill individual requests such as having a friend on the same team...unless you become a coach.

More rough information can be found below and will change as scheduling gets finalized. Critically important this year is the need for volunteer coaches for all grades, we cannot have a season without you and rosters cannot be completed unless you have enough coaches, so please consider signing up.  A vast majority of our coaches have never coached before, however we do have the assistance of the High School team for some practices as well as board members to help you.  Google is also a great way to learn some great techniques!

A coaches meeting will be planned for mid/end of April when coaches will pick up team shirts, get information about coaching, how the program works, and answer any questions.

All practices and meets will be held at Dan Patch Stadium at Prior Lake High School.

Practices will be one evening per week beginning the end of April or the beginning of Mary with the K-3rd grade practicing generally from 6-7pm and the 4-8th grade from 7-8pm, although those times depend on when the high school athletes need the field.

All meets will be on Saturday mornings with K-3rd grade beginning at 8:30am going to around 10:30am, and the 4-8th grade meet from 10am to about 12:30pm.

6th-8th graders - Note this is P.L.A.Y. Track Registration - if you want to register for Middle School Track you must go to the PLHS MS Activities website in order to register.  As a 6th-8th grader you can actually register for both - but you will need to register in both places PLAY and PLHS if you choose both - you are not able to register in one spot for both or the other.

The P.L.A.Y. Track and Field program is open to students from all districts, not just Prior Lake - Savage.

Kindergartners must be in K this school year (2020-21 school year) .  No Pre-K's.

We have access to the Prior Lake High School and Track for our meets and practices.  Since the high school teams share their track with us, our schedule depends on their schedules.

Track and Field Goals:

  • Make track and field fun for the kids, coaches and parents.
  • Provide a safe sport through proper use of equipment and access to amazing fields.
  • Give kids similar event participation time.
  • Teach the fundamentals of the sport and encourage progression of skill development.
  • Encourage the athletes to try all events throughout the season.
  • Demonstrate admirable sportsmanship both on and off the field.
  • Work as a team.

The cost of the program is only $70 per child for a fun-filled season.

Each year the number of participants grow, which requires even a greater need for volunteers in several capacities such as coaches,  directors, and board members.  (Most parents can qualify to coach and you would be placed with your child’s team).

Please indicate your willingness to volunteer at registration time.
Go to ‘Coaching Requirements’ Tab at top of page to get the information for coaching.

P.L.A.Y. Organization

P.L.A.Y. is a non-profit organization serving the communities in School District #719. The sole purpose of P.L.A.Y. is to provide a fun and educational environment for youth athletics. Prior Lake Athletics for Youth exists to promote the best possible athletic experience for the children of school district 719. This experience includes being fiscally responsible, creating a strategic vision for the future growth of our programs (to include facilities), managing risk and ensuring the safest possible environment for our children. It is the intention of this organization to provide a venue where competitiveness is balanced with fun, with an emphasis on FUN! It is our goal to create a youth athletics organization that the citizens of our community can be proud of.

We look forward to another exciting Track and Field Season!  If you have any questions or are interested in volunteering, please do not hesitate to contact us at

Open VP (or Co-VP) Position - 2022

We are looking for someone to rise to the VP ( or 2 people who can Co-VP together) to take over the Track and Field Program in 2022.  Ideally this would be a 2 year commitment or Co-VP with the ability to transfer to someone else.

This position is critical to keep the program up and running for our Prior Lake/Savage areas kids.   After 5 years as the VP/Co-VP, in 2022, my children will have graduated out of the program and onto the Middle/High School Teams.

If we cannot fill this position for 2022, Track and Field will have to be suspended like many other programs in the area which would be very unfortunate!

I am willing to train and co-VP with anyone next year or early 2022 to get you up to speed.  It honestly is not very time consuming, a couple hours a week early on in the season to get things going and then coordinating the practices and meets throughout the season.  It is roughly a 6-7 week commitment and if your kids are in the program, ideally you will be present at the practices and meets anyway.

Please email Adam Kneeland with any questions or interest!
