2017 P.L.A.Y. Football Equipment Return
Hello, and thank you for your interest in Prior Lake Youth Football. My name is Matt Lind, and I serve as the VP of Football for the Prior Lake Athletics for Youth (P.L.A.Y.) organization. As a former Laker and nearly 40-year resident of Prior Lake, and with 2 boys in P.L.A.Y. football, I truly have a vested interest in leading the charge toward a safe and rewarding experience predicated on positive coaching, proper training, and a fun and enriching environment. Involvement in P.L.A.Y. football will enable kids to learn lessons that will stay with them throughout their entire lives, and I look forward to continuing this great and successful tradition of P.L.A.Y. football.
Our web page is full of helpful information and we are continually working on keeping it up-to-date and relevant. Come back often to see what is new, including the preseason and in-season schedules as they become available.
Finally, it is important to note that you must live in District 719 or attend a school in District 719 in order to play football for P.L.A.Y. If you have any questions regarding this rule, or have any other general questions about P.L.A.Y. football, please reach out to a board member listed on the link below. Contacting your respective grade level coordinator is always a good place to begin.

May 18th: Registration opens for 1st - 8th Grade
June 19th: Early bird registration closes for 3rd-8th grade
July 9th: Registration closes for 3-8th grade (tackle)
July 15th: Early bird registration closes for 1-2nd grade (flag)
July 16th: Parent meeting and Player weigh-in for tackle football. Flag parents and players do not need to attend.
July 17, 18, 19th: Laker Football Camp
August 4th: Registration closes for 1-2nd grade (flag)
August 14th: Evaluations for 6th - 8th grade and First Day of practice for 3rd-5th Grade
August 19th: Coach G coaching clinic (PLHS)
August 21st: Flag starts for 1st and 2nd grade @ HOMS
August 24th: Pictures and Blue/Gold Game @PLHS
August 29th (est): First SWML league game
August 31st: P.L.A.Y. night at High School game @ PLHS

Registration is done on-line from the link at the top of the football page above. Remember your username / password and submit via CC. You will receive a Statement stating “submitted”, if it went through.
Each year the number of participants grows, which requires an even greater need for voluntary directors, board members, coaches, and assistant coaches. You do not need extensive experience to be a coach, just understand the basics of the game and know how to have fun with the kids. That's what it is all about, learning and having fun. (Any parent can qualify for a coach.) Please indicate your willingness to volunteer at registration time. Coaches are taken from the parent pool of those that wish to coach. A Background check, USA Heads-up football training, and general Coaching Pledge is required. We also ask that you coach only one team; if you have two players in the program we ask you only sign up to coach one of the players.
The Prior Lake football program is a member of USA football and we require each coach to get certified each year. We understand it takes time to get certified however we feel very strong about this training and thank you for understanding.
In certain grades we will accept one head coach and one assistant to coach together and both coaches must indicate this on the application. We will not accept two assistant coaches however they could still end up on the same team.
Our football program starts with 1st and 2nd grade Flag football. From there, players transition into our 3rd through 8th grade tackle football program.
The 1st-5th grade teams will play as part of the In-House program, where they will play other Prior Lake teams. 5th grade will also play teams from Eden Prairie and Chaska/Chanhassen (some games will be played outside of Prior Lake for 5th grade).
The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade teams will again be playing in the SouthWest Metro League (SWML) Traveling Program, giving all players the opportunity to compete against other youth organizations at an equally competitive skill level.
We are extremely fortunate to have PLHS Varsity Football Head Coach Matt Gegenheimer participate in the football board leadership. His vision is to create a singular football program, beginning at the 1st grade flag football level, and works progressively all the way through the Varsity level of football. We are working with Coach Gegenheimer to create the building blocks of a very successful football Prior Lake football program; one that is consistent, successful, and enriching throughout all levels.

Times and locations will be finalized and distributed to individual teams by the coaches once the teams are assigned, and prior to the 1st week of practice. Field locations and timing are subject to change as deemed necessary. Any changes will be communicated by the coaches.
