Fall Sideline Cheer

2019 Fall Sideline Cheer Information

Welcome to P.L.A.Y. Fall Sideline Cheer! This is a fun, inclusive, non-competitive cheer program. Participants are encouraged to make new friends, improve their skills, cheer on our P.L.A.Y. football teams and show Laker Pride!

Registration is now closed!

Uniform order payment link is coming soon!

Team rosters including coaches will come out probably in late July.

Registration Fee: $130 (no increase from 2018!)

Participants: Students ages pre-K (must be 4 by September 1, 2019) through 8th grade are eligible for Sideline Cheer.

**NEW for Middle School this year: We want to give our most experienced cheerleaders something new to look forward to! In addition to cheering on our 6th-8th grade teams at Laker Field, we are planning to cheer at some "away" games this year, to show our Laker pride out in the broader community! Locations will be nearby communities such as Eden Prairie, Chaska, and Chanhassen.

Season: Tuesday, August 13  will be the Get to Know Your Squad Night (first night of practice). The regular season will end prior to MEA break mid-October, with an end of season performance and party in late October.

Practice nights: All teams will practice on TUESDAY nights, with a second day, Mondays or Thursdays, for the first few weeks.  Some coaches will drop this second practice when school starts. Pre-K will be Tuesdays only.

Practice time: 6:00-7:15pm (Pre-K will practice 6:00-7:00pm)

Practice location: All practices are at Lakefront Park unless there is inclement weather.

Coaches: Our cheer squads are entirely led by amazing, dedicated volunteer coaches, most of whom are parents of our cheerleaders. An orientation and training will be provided. We can also partner you with another coach and/or team at the beginning to help you and your squad succeed. We provide videos of many of the cheers on our website to help you learn and teach the cheers. Coaching application appears at the end of registration if you are interest in coaching.

Squad formation: Squads are formed with cheerleaders of similar age and experience. This year you will be able to make ONE special request during registration: a friend request, coach request or 2nd practice night request. We do our best to honor these, but they are not guaranteed.

Games: Each squad will cheer for 7-8 P.L.A.Y. football games throughout the season. Most games are Saturday mornings, but you may have one or two weeknight games. Game schedules don't come out until late August, when we receive football schedules and can assign squads to games.

Cheer families purchased all new Sideline uniforms in 2018. We will use this same uniform for the next few years at least. Join our PLAY used uniform sale Facebook page to find used uniform pieces for a discount. New uniform fittings will be held June 27 and July 1 in the evening. See link at the top of the page to sign up.

Uniform Cost: Cheer uniforms are expensive. But they are one of our cheerleaders' favorite things about participating in the sport. And we encourage cheerleaders to wear them outside of cheer once the season is over - Halloween, other sporting events, etc. Here are cost estimates for NEW uniform pieces:
Uniform top and skirt package: $134
Long sleeve body liner: $24
Navy boy shorts: $15 (you may buy these on your own elsewhere)
Navy and yellow-gold poms: $11 for the set
Hair bow: $8
Other items you will need to purchase on your own:
Solid white tennis shoes (any brand/type)
Navy leggings for colder days
OPTIONAL warm-up jacket and pants: about $100 depending on personalization

Parent Information Meeting: July 30th 6:00pm at PL City Hall

Coaches Meeting and Training: July 30th immediately following the parent meeting.

Please Note:

The winter Basketball cheer program was discontinued a few years ago. Unfortunately, most of our gyms do not have adequate space for spectators and cheerleaders.
