Thank you for your interest in P.L.A.Y. Cheer. We currently have several program options: Sideline Cheer, Traditional (2:30) Competitive Cheer, and Game Day Competitive Cheer programs.
Sideline Cheer
Our Sideline Program includes our fun, inclusive, non-competitive cheer (in-house) program. Participants cheer on grade level (or combined grade level) squads from pre-K through 8th grade. Athletes are encouraged to develop and improve fundamental cheer skills, cheer on our P.L.A.Y. football teams, share their Laker Pride and make new friends! Registration takes place in May for the fall season.
Practices are usually two nights in August and drop to one night a week in September. Historically, the program practices Tuesday nights at Lakefront Park from 6:00-7:15pm (the second day in August varies by team pending the coach schedule). Game schedules for football do not come out until mid to late August, but typically they are on Saturday mornings or afternoons. Sometimes there are weeknight games, but games are at coaches' discretion to schedule. Our End of Sideline Show is TBD mid-October, usually before MEA weekend.
The 2:30 Competition Teams
These are our traditional competition cheer teams, performing a 2 minute and 30 second routine including a cheer, dance, tumbling, jumps, stunting and a pyramid. Our 2:30 teams practice twice a week and compete at 5-6 local competitions in their respective divisions as well as at State where applicable.
The Game Day Team(s)
Our Game Day team(s) competes with a 3 minute routine in which athletes perform a band chant, situational sideline (offensive or defensive) cheer and the school fight song, all while leading the crowd and putting up stunts. Game Day will practice 1-2x per week.
P.L.A.Y. Cheer is looking for coaches! If you are interested in coaching this season, please fill out the coaching registration below.
Please note, completing the coaching registration does not guarantee a coaching spot on a squad. It just indicates your interest in coaching this season. Thank you!
Information for 2023-2024 programming will be coming soon. Look for spring clinics to begin soon with competition team tryouts and sideline registration opening in late Spring.
