Travel Softball

This program is a larger commitment from the players, parents, coaches, and volunteers. It is a step up, both in commitment and competition from in-house softball. Travel softball is for players that want to play in a game one or two nights a week in addition to practicing one or two nights a week. They will also be in between 3-5 weekend tournaments during the summer depending on age. These teams will play neighboring communities as well as possible travel further for scheduled league games. Players and parents are expected to commit to 100% of the games and practices. Playing time may not be equal for all players as tournaments will be played to win, league games will be played for development and learning. It’s expected that if you earn a spot on a travel team that you make the commitment to be at all practices, games, and tournaments. The travel softball program is part of the Big West Fastpitch League.

The traveling softball program is available to 8U-14U players. The age level is determined by the player’s birth year. Players will participate in a two-day tryout. No player can participate in the travel program without going through the tryout process. Tryout evaluations are always conducted by a 3rd party not affiliated with the P.L.A.Y. softball program to ensure fairness to all players trying out. After tryout evaluations, the tryout committee (selected softball board members) and selected head coaches work together to determine the final team rosters. If/when a player is selected for a team, they will be placed on a team's roster consistent with their skill level.  The travel team's competition level, A/B/C (A-being the highest) will be determined by the overall evaluated skill level of each rostered players. The number of teams will depend on registration numbers at each age level.

Travel registration fees all include a non-refundable tryout fee. If a player does not make a travel team all fees minus the tryout fee will be applied to in-house registration and the difference refunded automatically. If they do not wish to play on an in-house team the registration fee will be refunded, minus the tryout and administrative fee. Once teams are announced the rosters are final. If a family is unhappy with where their child has been placed and wishes to not participate in the travel season because of team placement there is no registration refund.

The Softball Board's main goal of the program is to teach the kids as much as we can about the game and give them as many opportunities to play as possible. We encourage you to click on the different age levels above to learn more specific information that applies to your athlete. Also, there is more information located on the "New to Softball" page.

Age Level Information

Age level is based on age of player as of September 1st of the previous year, regardless of what their age will be in the summer months. Each level has a slight difference in commitment. Please see each tab to gather more info about each level.

Traveling Softball is intended to be a competitive experience with the opportunity to have fun and learn softball fundamentals. If you are looking for something less competitive, you should consider In-House Softball.
